Morgan Dollars 1881-1885

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 2935
1881 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 66. Lovely rainbow toning on the obverse. The reverse displays rose and gold colors. Only 984 proofs struck. This lovely Gem is blazing with full, pleasing originality and color that just won't end; moreover, we are hard pressed to find even a single carbon fleck or any objectionable feature to point out to you. The coin has real charm. It has all of the qualifications of the Proof 66 grade, and more. It has perfect detail from a bold strike. So if you are one to aim high in your acquisition plans, then this 1881 Proof should be in your field of focus, deservedly so. Pop 17; 7 finer; 5 in 67; 2 in 68. (PCGS # 7316) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Lot 2936
1881 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. White. Bright silver color with nary a hint of toning, the pure white iridescence lights up the surfaces of this well preserved coin. Sometimes on this issue, the devices that were left by the dies are short of the required precision due to weak die pressure, but we find the opposite to be the case here, everything is finely detailed, including the centers. Pop 40; 3 finer in 67. (PCGS # 7124) .
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,300.

1881-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Frosty and creamy white. Superb! The surfaces are highly lustrous and each side has a smooth iridescent patina that swirls and alternates between lighter and darker hues. A diminished impression is again the usual outlook for many coins struck this year, but in fact, this piece was left very boldly detailed by the recoil of the sharp dies; a fortunate occurrence. Pop 100; 3 finer in 68. (PCGS # 7126) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,300.

1882 Morgan Dollar. NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo. Fantastic! White. The surfaces are glossy and radiant. There is no toning. And deficiency isn't in the cards when it comes to this coin's detail, in fact, outstanding is the word to describe the striking detail on Liberty as well as the eagle. The mirror field creates a nice canvas of smooth rippling water against which are set the bold, frosted devices. Collectors often patrol the aisles of America's larger coin shows looking for such a specimen. The search often ends with nothing found. Put this handsome Gem Proof in a silver dollar collection, and watch it take the spotlight. Only 1,100 proofs minted. Pop 1; none finer. (PCGS # 7317) .
